Yoga for Men
The ' Yoga for Men Class ' is for men who have been tempted by yoga, but who have been put off by some of the perceptions about it. It still has the image of being mainly for flexible women, and the idea of joining a class where you sweat and can't touch your toes means a lot of men miss out on the benefits of yoga, of which there are many. These - include physical and mental strength and flexibility, dealing with stress, and an antidote to business and sensory overload - in a way that isn't about punishing the body, but still offering challenges.
The yoga world has changed since I started practicing over 30 years ago, and it has become more mainstream in its appeal. An example of this is many athletes incorporate it into their training, and most major football clubs have yoga as an integral part of the training for players. Ryan Giggs even brought out his own yoga DVD!
Personally I feel the practice has helped me become a more balanced individual, especially when life has proved challenging, and has complimented my running and mountaineering over the years.
Remember, you don't have to be able to touch your toes, be flexible or particularly fit. But through practice we may find we become stronger, more mindful and peaceful as men.
The class will be at an introductory level, with the aim of moving on to more general classes when you feel ready.
Starting Wednesday September 18th, 7.45pm til 9.00pm.
